Your Own Hawaiian Oasis
Aloha Cottages
Kapa'a Town &
The Coconut Coast
We just love Old Town Kapa’a and the East side of Kauai because of its convenient location and authentic historical Hawaiian feel. There are a wonderful variety of shops, restaurants, and local artisans within a short walking distance of the Cottages. The walking and biking path that runs along the ocean, just in front of the Cottages, can be followed north into Old Town Kapa’a making it an easy and fun walk of about 1/4 mile. Just off the path in Kapa’a you will find bike rentals, shaved ice, fresh fish tacos and everything else you need to feel immersed in the relaxing Hawaiian culture. Stroll Old Town Kapa’a, finding little local treasures everywhere. Find one of our many casual family restaurants with fantastic ocean views and cool breezes or grab something from a local food truck and eat on the beach.
Conveniently located just six miles north of the Lihue airport on Kaua'i's east coast, Kapa'a is not only a hub of island activity but is located midway between the tropical north and sunny south shores, offering easy access to the island's many sights and adventures.

KE ALA HELE MAKALAE: An exciting NEW feature is the Seaside Walking and Biking Path, that runs along the ocean, right past the property. Visitors enjoy the Path for exploring the coastline, past Kapaa Town, beaches and amazing ocean vistas.
BEACHES: The Coconut Coast abounds with scenic and varied beaches for all kinds of fun! PLEASE use caution when in and around the ocean, it is powerful and can be unpredictable. Beaches with lifeguards are best! Within a short distance to the north you'll find...
Just in front of the cottage, less than 30 steps across the front lawn, is the soft sand and warm waters of 'Baby Beach,' one of the safest swimming beaches on the island for small children. Here you can enjoy kayaking, snorkeling, or even SCUBA for lobster in season. The quiet waterfront vintage neighborhood is just a short stroll from scenic, historic Kapaa Town.
A short (2 mile) ride north on the path (or 5 minute drive) will bring you to Kealia Beach, a sweeping swath of wide sand, lifeguards and fun waves. You'll see small children to experienced surfers in the water, as well as quiet observers under the shade trees, enjoying a picnic or cool drink.
You can only get to Donkey Beach via the Bike Path or hiking from the parking lot, so often you'll be the only one there. But, beware, the ocean requires experienced swimmers only in the water!
And, to the south...
At the mouth of the Wailua River is the wild surf of Wailua Beach, great for beachcombing, not so great for safely getting wet.
If you're looking for exercise we recommend the larger "pool" at Lydgate Park for swimming laps, it's fantastic! We use mask and snorkel to spot a lovely variety of tropical fish. The smaller "pool" is perfectly protected for small children. Drive or walk to the south end of Lydgate to find one of the longest expanses of sandy beach on the island, inviting long walks with several refreshing dips in the water.
